Serban Nicolescu

Although, I had always loved of becoming an artist, I started painting since 2014.
During my childhood and teenage years, I drew a lot, copying freehand caricatures, cartoons and images with insects and plants, but later in life I stopped any contacts with the art world. And then, years after ........ my life as an artist has begun.

I attended a weekly art class under tuition of local artist Anna Simms in Christchurch.
I started life drawing under tuition of artist Nicholas Beer, at his "Sarum Studio" in Salisbury.

I attend one to one coaching with Stefan Baumann, an American artist with his studio at the Grand View Ranch in Mt. Shasta, California.

I was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1974, the second of triplets and there I spent the first 34 years of my life.
I grew up surrounded by a large family with many uncles and aunts (brothers, sisters and brothers-in-law of grandparents), some of whom were painters.
That was my first contact with the world of painting, watching them producing lovely paintings and works of art.

During my childhood and teenage years, I liked drawing, especially on school notebooks, which made me very unpopular with many teachers.
I liked to draw insects, plants, cartoons and caricatures I copied by hand from magazines.
But, unfortunately, all art teachers I had as a child did nothing but discourage me, hence I never thought I could be an artist and I learned hard to get a "proper profession"; I did this rather well.

In 2009 I moved to UK and this completely changed my life.
While visiting places, I begun to imagine painting the scenery, but it was nothing more than a thought.
I remember once I was in "Old Harry Rocks" in Dorset with a friend who said that that landscape would make a nice painting and I said "Yes, I will paint one, sometime in the future". He thought it was a good joke, but now he is the proud owner of the painting I did with "Old Harry Rocks".

So here I am, wishing to become a full time artist.
